Our Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Center

Alcohol and drug addictions, co-dependency, Co-Occurring Disorders (Dual Diagnosis) and the trauma received in the process of living, are addressed in our residential substance abuse treatment program and residential drug treatment center.
How Do We Fall into Chemical Addictions?
Anyone can fall into substance abuse or chemical addictions, regardless of education, economic status, or family background. However, we find that many people are predisposed to chemical addictions, or addictive or codependent relationships by family patterns that are passed on from generation to generation. These patterns are made up of misbeliefs and judgments that are created about self, others, relationships, and the addiction of choice. An essential part of residential substance abuse treatment is the treatment of these patterns and issues. At Renaissance Malibu Residential Drug Treatment Center, we have group counseling, as well as individual counseling that enables our clients to heal these patterns as part of our residential substance abuse treatment program.
Misbeliefs vs. New Beliefs
As our clients go through our residential substance abuse treatment program, we give them new beliefs that replace, in a healthy way, the misbeliefs and patterns of addiction. Some of these may be similar, or integrate the 12 Steps, others are specific to certain issues in that client's life (some of these concepts are borrowed from The 16 Steps by Kasl).
Our clients in our residential drug treatment center learn to trust their own reality. Since manipulation and denial are strong patterns in families with addictive and codependent behaviors, many clients must rebuild their own reality by trusting what they hear, see and feel.
As part of learning to set healthy boundaries, the clients in our residential substance abuse treatment program are taught to admit to mistakes and make amends when appropriate, but not to continue codependent patters of apologizing for things they have not done; and not taking responsibility for the shortcomings of others.
Learning to honor and value yourself may seem like a lesson in basic self-esteem, but it can be an important part of replacing addictive behavior triggers with healthy behaviors. Our residential alcohol treatment program teaches our clients to seek out situations, jobs, and people who affirm their intelligence, perceptions and self-worth; and, to avoid situations or people who are hurtful, harmful, or demeaning to them.
In learning how to put their lives back into a healthy state, our residential substance abuse treatment clients are taught how to value and promote their own physical health; organize their lives; reduce stress; and bring fun back to themselves.
Since many of our clients come from families and relationships where they were controlled and manipulated by the family patterns, many feel like they do not know themselves. As part of our residential drug treatment center program, we assist our clients to find their own our inward direction, and develop the will and wisdom to follow it.
Often the ups and downs of normal life may seem like too much to handle. In our residential alcohol treatment center, we help our clients to realize that they can accept the ups and downs of life as natural events, and that these events can be used as lessons for their growth.
Renaissance Malibu's Aftercare Program
The transition from a residential drug treatment center to "real life" can be a challenge for many clients. Our Aftercare Program, complete with counseling and support group contacts, is designed by the counselors in our residential substance abuse treatment program to assist clients to not only transition back to their lives, but to be successful in their recovery on a long-term basis. The contact with our residential substance abuse treatment center continues long after the client is no longer a resident.
