Healing the relationships that have been affected by addiction, as well as addressing relationship patterns that have been passed from generation to generation is an important part of our drug treatment center program. At Renaissance Malibu we focus on the following areas:
Family Relationships
Family members and significant others engaged in the addiction process also need insight and education. As an important part of our drug and alcohol treatment center, our Family Program provides resources for education and an opportunity for healing for family members as well. Our drug treatment center program includes Family Therapy Sessions that address specific issues within your family, as well as the Family of Origin Weekend experience.
Healthy Boundaries
In our quest to be loved and accepted, we learn many behaviors that are destructive to growth and well-being. Learning to establish healthy boundaries is a critical part of ongoing recovery. At Renaissance Malibu drug and alcohol treatment center, we offer groups to help in identifying where poor boundaries have created problems in our clients' lives, and identify the tools to make necessary changes possible. Creating healthy relationships is a major focus at our drug abuse treatment center.
Adventure Therapy
Adventure therapy is an experiential therapeutic technique utilizing cooperative group games, ropes courses, and employing challenge as an agent for change. Adventure therapy is a powerful technique used at Renaissance Malibu's drug addiction treatment center that helps people engage in new (or rediscovered) behaviors, and reconnect with their bodies. In adventure therapy, our clients are provided with real experiences that can be drawn upon to assist them in making necessary changes in their lives. These skills are an important part of any drug treatment center, as they give clients the tools they need for continued recovery.
Codependency
Codependency is a term that applies not only to the spouses of alcoholics and drug abusers, but to any "person who has let someone else's behavior affect him or her, and is obsessed with controlling that person's behavior," (Beattie, 1989).
As our clients begin a program in our drug addiction treatment center, they must confront and root out the codependencies that they and their families have acquired through the years. Family behavior patterns that include codependency often continue from generation to generation, whether there is an active chemical addiction or not.
As an important part of a drug abuse treatment center, therapy for codependency sheds light on the dysfunctional life patterns that have been built upon layers of guilt and secrets accumulated within individuals over many years of substance abuse and/or family history. Psychologists believe that codependency develops from a hunger for love that can be transmitted down through generations.
