LSD Addiction

About LSD

LSD, commonly referred to as "acid," is sold on the street in tablets, capsules, and, occasionally, liquid form. LSD is odorless, colorless, and has a slightly bitter taste and is usually taken by mouth. Often LSD is added to absorbent paper, such as blotter paper, and divided into small decorated squares, with each square representing one LSD dose.

The effects of LSD abuse are unpredictable. They depend on the amount of LSD taken; the user's personality, mood, and expectations; and the surroundings in which the LSD is used. Usually, the user feels the first effects of the drug 30 to 90 minutes after taking it.

Hazards of LSD Abuse

Users refer to their experience with LSD as a "trip" and to acute adverse reactions as a "bad trip" -- severe, terrifying thoughts and feelings, fear of losing control, fear of insanity and death, and despair. Some fatal accidents have occurred during states of LSD intoxication. And LSD has an unusual "echo." Many LSD users have flashbacks -- sudden repetitions of their LSD experiences -- days or months after they stop using the drug.

Bad trips and LSD flashbacks are only part of the risks of LSD abuse. LSD abuse may cause relatively long-lasting psychoses, such as schizophrenia or severe depression. LSD abuse treatment can often help to ameliorate some of these symptoms.

What is LSD Addiction?

LSD is not considered an addictive drug since it does not produce compulsive drug-seeking behavior as do cocaine, amphetamine, heroin, or alcohol. However, while clinical LSD addiction is rare, LSD abuse does produce tolerance, so users who take LSD repeatedly must take progressively higher doses to achieve the state of intoxication that they had previously achieved. This is an extremely dangerous practice, given the unpredictability of LSD, and in these cases addiction treatment is recommended.

LSD Abuse Treatment at RENAISSANCE MALIBU

If you or a loved one suffers from LSD abuse, or you believe you have developed an LSD addiction, help is available at the RENAISSANCE MALIBU drug and alcohol treatment center. Our licensed staff will design a personalized LSD abuse treatment program that addresses your individual needs and concerns.

Starting even before arrival at RENAISSANCE MALIBU's LSD abuse rehab facility, the clinical staff works with the client's family and friends to develop an understanding of significant concerns and issues. Upon arrival, each person receives a series of personal evaluations to assess the client's status in each of the program's four main healing components; Mind, Body, Spirit, and Relationships. After coordination with all clinical and medical treatment team members, the client moves to a luxurious suite, ready to focus on their individually tailored LSD abuse treatment plan in a setting of unmatched beauty overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the mountains above Malibu, California.

What About LSD Detox?

Withdrawal symptoms accompanying drug or alcohol detox - whereby the body is rid of the residual toxins of drugs and alcohol - can be a decidedly uncomfortable experience without the supervision of an experienced, licensed detox staff. Fortunately, the physical effects of LSD decrease naturally, usually within 12-24 hours. Emotional and mental effects of chronic LSD abuse may be long lasting, however, so licensed LSD abuse therapy is recommended.

Evaluating LSD Treatment Centers

Any rehab center you contact that boasts first-rate LSD addiction treatment should be entirely able - and willing -- to supply answers to any and all of your questions. Do not be timid in asking, and be sure that you are comfortable with the answers.

First, determine the accreditation of the LSD treatment center you are considering. Remarkably, there are many rehabs that have no accreditation, often because their treatment methods are questionable. Some of the more dubious California rehab centers even state that there is a "simple answer" to abuse or addiction, and that dealing with emotional, relationship and family issues is not necessary. Be aware that this approach is short-sited, counter-productive, and entirely inaccurate.

If you or a loved one is considering a rehab for LSD addiction, you should also inquire:

. Is the clinical staff fully licensed - not merely certified?
. Do they specialize in LSD addiction and abuse?
. Can they point to a history of success in LSD addiction and LSD abuse treatment?
. Do they have LSD relapse prevention and continuing care programs?
. Does the LSD program offer a continuum of care, where you can transition to lesser or greater levels of care if you need them?
. Does the program offer a wide range of ancillary professionals and activities to further accommodate your specialized needs?
. Is the LSD program structure flexible enough to accommodate personal needs?
. Does the LSD treatment program offer a balance of group and individual activities?
. Does the LSD program offer specialized treatment tracks for your needs?
. Does the program take place in an institutional setting or offer a beautiful, serene environment conducive to healing?

Other questions that are important to ask when considering LSD rehab centers: If you are currently seeing a therapist for LSD abuse or addiction, what is his or her opinion? Does the LSD abuse treatment center address dual diagnosis needs? What is its drug treatment philosophy? Is the cost of residential treatment "all inclusive"? Is medical insurance accepted?
